Partners of The Bridge Integrated Care Hub are pleased to announce that a building permit for 1 Alhambra Square has been issued, clearing the way for construction to begin in the coming weeks on the future permanent home of The Bridge.

With all funding and approvals taken care of, the renovation project is on its way to completion.

“This milestone marks the final stage of the building project and represents an important step forward in continued development of long-term, community-focused solutions to address homelessness, substance use, and mental health challenges within the region,” said Steve van de Hoef, Strategic Implementation Lead for the provincially-funded Homelessness and Addiction Recovery Treatment (HART) Hub in Hastings Prince Edward. “This project is a positive example of organizations working together, combining their resources and expertise to expand and strengthen wrap-around care services for Hastings Prince Edward’s most vulnerable residents,” said Kara Petit, Executive Director, John Howard Society of Belleville.

The project comes at an opportune time as the number of unhoused individuals in the region continues to rise to an estimated 300 people this year. Through a one-door, one-roof approach, The Bridge aims to ensure that people facing complex health and housing challenges can access the compassionate, coordinated support they deserve to move toward stability, recovery and improved well-being.

The Bridge renovations are fully funded by the City of Belleville, Health Canada, and the John M. and Bernice Parrott Foundation. While construction is underway, The Bridge will continue operating at 125 South Church Street, with occupancy at 1 Alhambra Square anticipated in February 2026. Plans are in development for The Bridge to operate 24/7 at its current location in time for when colder weather arrives.

As progress on the permanent location continues, construction updates and other information about The Bridge can be found at thebridgehub.ca.
